One crucial thing you can do as a mid-level professional is to leave a lasting impact on the people you come into contact with.

Leaving an impact simply means adding value to individuals, no matter how little it is.

In the workplace, it is crucial that you learn to make an impact, especially on the people you work with.

Here are simple ways to do it.

1. Being readily available to help:
Your colleagues should know that you are willing to help whenever help is required. You are willing to throw your weight around to get things done.

2. Being a good confidant:
The simple act of listening and being in someone’s confidence is a great way to make an impact. Lend a listening ear, offer input where needed and give your support. Works sometimes act like magic.

3. Wise Counsel:
You want to be able to give wise counsel especially when it is required. Advise others, call them out when they need it. This is part of the impact you can make on others.

When trying to make an impact, ensure that:

1. You portray yourself as Reliable and Dependable. No one wants to work with someone who is unreliable.
2. Exhibit a calm demeanor. A calm demeanor portrays you as being wise and sensible.
3. Ensure you are not overdoing it. No one likes a people pleaser.

In my experience, I discovered that people choose to make impact on others for two reasons:
1. Some do it for Self gratification
2. Some do it because it is simply in their nature.

The best motive to impact others is to do it simply because you expect nothing in return.

This way, you don’t do it for these people alone, you are also doing it inadvertently to add value to yourself. By doing this you sill be changing the culture of the work environment you are in without even trying.
