Today the Mo Ibrahim Foundation announced that for the second year in a row, no African leader was deemed worthy of the prestigious 2019 Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership. And it got me thinking – what an indictment it is for the leaders of Africa in all facets, that one of their own could not see any quality in them all worthy of celebrating.
A moment of reflection for us all – not just Africans, but the entire human race. Where are the true leaders in the world of today? Where have they gone? What are we doing to shore up qualities of leadership?
The leaders that we have – are they impactful leaders?
Reflections – leadership is inbred. We all have it. But we need to engage our inner selves with a determined consciousness to want to have impact as leaders.
The development of our immediate surroundings and our respective constituencies is what makes a good leader. And we must wake up to this reality and take it on….so that Mo Ibrahim will not have a reason not to find a worthy leader for his award in a year’s time.
It is up to all of us. Let us challenge ourselves to greatness.
