AS A MID-LEVEL EXECUTIVE, HERE ARE 5 SOFT SKILLS YOU NEED TO MOVE INTO SENIOR-LEVEL EXECUTIVE POSITIONS.
1–Calm Disposition
“Rushing into action, you fail.
Trying to grasp things, you lose them.
Forcing a project to completion,
you ruin what was almost ripe.
Therefore the Master takes action
by letting things take their course.
He remains as calm at the end
as at the beginning.”
_ Lao Tzu
As a mid-level executive, you need to develop the skill of calmness, even under fire. Understand that Panic doesn’t solve problems. Because you are a Leader, you have to be exemplary. Having the ability to manage the situation on the ground and come up with incredible results, is one of the key soft skills that paved the way for you on your ladder to a Senior Level Executive.
2–Self Conscious:
Knowing yourself is not a crime.
It’s one thing to be a leader and it’s another thing to understand the nature of your position. It’s in the moment of self-appraisals that you can know the right attitude to apply irrespective of your environment and situations at hand.
Position yourself as a leader, then you will attract the reward and privileges deserving of a leader. Let the aura around you, portray leadership, and then you won’t struggle in your journey into a senior-level executive position.
3–Knowledge:
The knowledge they say is power. You can’t dispense what you don’t know. You are an output of your knowledge base. Appraise yourself with the right knowledge for the position of Senior-Level Executive.
Draw close to like minds, with people who are ahead of you in the very position you are aiming for, and make inquiries based on their personal experiences, the challenges; how they solved and managed the situations that seem overwhelming, because whether you want to believe it or not. The higher the position, the higher the challenges that await you. So knowing about the existence of these challenges and preparing ahead for them, will be a greater advantage for you, especially among your contemporaries. As we all know that competitions are inevitable, especially with such a position as that of a Senior-Level Executive.
The boy’s brigade will always say, “Be prepared”. Knowledge aids you to be prepared.
4–Confidence:
Confidence is the best perfume an aspiring Senior Level Executive person should put on. You can’t say you are a leader when your words seem shaky and wavery not looking firm or serious.
Your words, and actions, should exhume confidence. Your followers, clients, and subordinates, should be able to trust you to deliver, to lead them right. And this should come from the place of confidence that you display.
If the company can’t trust you to take the business and services to another level of growth, that means you lack the confidence skill.
Questions you need to answer
?– Can the company trust you with delicate secrets about the company?
?– Can the company send you overseas without them being afraid that you might run away and refuse to come back?
?–Can the company trust you with their current challenges and believe you will help them scale through with an incredible idea?
This and more, are questions you need to ask yourself to evaluate your confidence skill.
5–Tenacious:
One of the attributes of a leader is tenaciousness. This very skill works closely with confidence.
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
When you are tenacious, quitting in the face of challenges is not an option for you. You creatively come up with better ways to scale above the hurdles. You believe that success and victory are possible and hence motivate your team to maximum productivity. When you are tenacious, you always have a ready plan B, in case plan A fails to work.
